On Saturday, October 11th 2008 Jon and I were actually getting ready to go explore another "Night Time Corn Maize" when I started to feel some pain. I went to the bathroom-- but the pain kept getting more and more intense... so we decided to bail and call it a night. (At this point... I was still thinking Jon and I would curl up and watch a movie)
As we entered the car-- the pains kept getting sharper and it suddenly dawned on me that I hadn't felt the baby kick me all afternoon. Which we know is not the case normally for this little one! We called my midwife on duty and started heading to the hospital. Once there, we went in and they hooked me up to fetal monitoring system where I could hear the heart beat and they would check for any contractions. Well-- to the likings of my ears... this little one was going to town on the monitor and gave me a big kick once hooked up!! I LOVE to hear my baby's heartbeat!! They did find that I was having some contractions (not Braxton Hicks) so they gave me a shot to stop the contractions. They did a bunch of testing and came to the conclusion it was probably a UTI and sent me home.
On our way home-- my back (which had been bothering me) started to give me more and more pain. Jon and I got home around midnight and we tried to call it a night. Jon got me a heating pad for my back and we shut off the lights. I couldn't sleep. My back kept getting more and more intense so I got up and tried to take a hot bath to relieve my pain. That didn't do to much-- so I warmed up the heating pad and went out and sat on the couch... after 5 hours of increasing pain-- I threw up and told Jon it was time to head back to the hospital. I had talked myself into the fact that I was in labor and experiencing whats called "back labor". I was trying all my birth positions we practiced to get the baby to turn so it would relieve my back pain... but no such luck.
When we got back to the hospital-- they took me right to a room and got me hooked up with some pain medication that knocked me right out. When I woke up-- they took Jon and I down so I could get an ultrasound. They knew the baby was not really being effected-- but because I was still having contractions, they wanted to play it safe and just check it out (while checking out my kidneys). Jon lie a sleep in the chair as the ultrasound lady instructed me not to move during the screening. (All I wanted to do is see my baby!!)
When I returned back-- they informed me that I had a kidney stone and they were checking for any further infections to my kidneys. They gave me another dose of the medicine-- and again, I was out! I pretty much was in and out all Sunday. Jon stayed with me until around 4 and then headed to get things ready for youth group. I hadn't been successful keeping any food down because of the pain and then the medication on top of it.
The doctors came in to give me some news in the afternoon. I was still having some contractions but after doing some tests-- they think that I'm good for the next two weeks but after that... it was anyones guess to how soon the baby could come. There main concern is to stop the pain to keep me from going into preterm labor.
Jon arrived back to the hospital around 9pm and spent the night next to me. It was nice to have him close by. Unfortunately... he was up throughout the night with me because I was in and out of pain and then the doctors had to come in to check my stats every few hours. Finally by morning I was starting to feel better so I had some hope that I was on the up. Jon took off for work and I spent the morning sleeping. My doctor came in and said she wanted to send me home, but she wanted me to meet with a urologist. The urologist came in to meet me in the afternoon. The urologist gave me two options: Get a stent placed in my kidney and bladder to relieve some of the pain (this would stay in me until after the birth) or go home with some pain meds to hopefully help with the pain (but if not, again... the next option is the stent). I decided to give going home a try!!! I obviously don't want to get a stent placed if at all possible. The main concern of the doctor and the urologist is to keep my pain at a minimal so that my contractions can be maintained (hopefully stopped) and this little one stays in as long as possible. (Sounds like it will be coming a little early).
So-- today is a new day. I had a rough nights sleep last night. Waking up every few hours to take Tylenol and knowing that this was not going to work. :( -- I called and made an appt today to see the Urologist again and she basically gave me the same information (but Jon was there to help me sort through the info) and sent me home with Vicodin and said if I had another hard night to start fasting and they would do the surgery. (This is from here on out :( ... yuck) So... that's where I am now. I have been having a pretty good evening. Staying as hydrated as possible and hoping that I don't have another bad night. The urologist did forget to call me in my prescriptions so no matter what... I'm stuck with just Tylenol extra strength tonight! Hopefully with all these fluids it will be a better night.
I'll keep you posted.... PRAY!!!
