Building A Legacy

Contractions Begin... or is it gas??

11.19.08-- Well, yesterday was my 38 week doctors appointment. Once again, I waddled in hoping for some kind of miracle. You know the one... where the doctor says "wow! It's time... you're going to have this baby in the next hour"-- but to my dismay... NOTHING! In fact, I believe my midwife said "expect to go late and then if you early... you will be pleasantly surprised" (THEM WORDS ARE FIGHTING WORDS!!!) So anyway, the doctor listened to our little one's heartbeat (nice and strong) and felt around and said everything looks and sounds great. And then she said "see you next week"... grrr... see you next week! Geez... how bout "see you in an hour"
So Jon and I headed to Target to get some materials for youth ministry from now until the end of the year. Together, we've set-up his Paternity Plan to make sure everything runs smoothly for remainder of the year. (Pray that it does!!) I just want Jonathan and I to be able to enjoy the first few weeks with our little one without feeling the stress of his job knocking on our door.
So... we shopped, picking up supplies and getting some goodies to stock the house since I don't do much these days but sit on the couch and watch a Baby Story~ :)
Afterwards-- I headed home and took a much needed nap. I started feeling a little crampy and figured it best that I get some rest before I headed to go pick up Simon and Sophia (the kids I nanny). I woke up feeling pretty terrible. I almost called Jon to ask him to fill in for me... but eventualy I got my butt out of bed and left to pick them up. On the way back to the Toback residence, I called Jon and asked him to make sure he kept his phone on him for the remainder of the day. I was feeling more and more crampy and my back hurt as well. (was something starting??) After work, I headed home and waited for Jon to arrive home as well. We ate some dinner and I told him it was probably best that we both got out of the house and went to our Sherpherd groups. (this could be are very last before baby) I reminded him to keep his phone on him... but felt comfortable since I knew Maureen (a dear friend, our lactation consultant, and now our doula) was going to be at my Shepherd group with me and would tell me if I needed to head home or head to the hospital.
The pain increased some throughout the evening. I sipped on water and found myself heading home STARVING after group. Jon met me at home... I took a hot bath and then he rubbed my back for a good hour as what felt like contractions would come and go every 15 or so minutes. Finally, around 1 pm I fell asleep and when I woke up this morning-- NOTHING! The back ache went away and I haven't felt any contractions as of 11:30 this morning. I guess time will tell if anything is going to pick up again or if that was just a tiny dose of what is to come. I'll keep you posted!! I'd really love to have this baby before Turkey Day!! I want my stuffing, mashed potatoes loaded with gravy!! Yum! And as I told little Simon... when you all are stuffing your faces and getting big, bloated belly's.. mine is going to shrink!! Right?!?! :)
