A WALK & A TROT
January 7th 2010- it's a normal evening at our home in Centre Hall with Grandma and Grandpa Marshall. We're doing our best to wear you out as it gets closer to your 7:30 bedtime. You enjoy playing with your blocks, especially when someone stacks them up high and you get to knock them over!! Grandpa stacked them up for you as you stood by the couch watching. This time, however, you took a step towards the blocks, and then another, and then another: until you reached the blocks and knocked them to the ground. And from here, your walking milestone is history!! You haven't looked back since! You love walking. You're a natural! You've had a couple of hard falls, but a little snuggle from mommy, and you're all better! Even if you still have blood dripping from your lip!
Friendship: you love your friends! Ava, Liam, Piper, and Miles are your best buddies. You love learning how to play "nice" with them. You have such a kind heart. You often try and share whatever you are playing with. Every once in a while, you'll get frustrated if you aren't able to play with a toy your little eyes are set on, but you are easily distracted! You also have some new pals from Sesame Street. You love Elmo, and Cookie- Big Bird and Grover. Ernie, and Zoe, and Oscar too! We've been reading you a book: Elmo's 1st Book of Colors and you LOVE it! Mommy recently went out and bought you a little Elmo and Cookie for you to carry around. For every diaper change, there is a very excited little girl waiting for the reveal of which character is going to be on your diaper!! Elmo is def your favorite, but you still shoot a smile for all the other characters too!
Words: You have discovered how to say "momma" again and it just melts my heart little one! You will walk all around the room saying "momma, momma, momma" and when you get hurt, you'll ask for me. You have also discovered how to blow kisses and love sharing them with everyone you come in contact with!! Some other words: cup, up, down. You are also discovering how to make animal sounds. From little dogs nnn's to moo's to meow!
Obedience: We have started giving you some crib isolation time when you carry on your own will instead of being obedient to what mommy and daddy say. Our major concerns, as of now, is keeping your off the steps. You LOVE to climb up and down the steps, and are very good at the stairs, but we have gotten to a point where all you want to do is steps and it's just not a good idea. We've tried "no" but you are determined. Part of the problem is there are four grown-ups living under one roof and we each let you do different things. None of us our consistent and it causes you confusion. Mommy is also expecting you to make eye contact with her when she is giving you a command. We're all learning together, and although sometimes are difficult, it's good for all of us.
Art: On January 28th I sat you in your high chair and gave you some crayons and a piece of paper. You enjoyed watching the colors fill up your little canvas and mommy absolutely loved the time with you. I have purchased some thicker crayons just for you and look forward to more art projects with my baby girl.
Sick-E-Poo- Well Ruthie, you've survived your first high fever and didn't end up at the Emergency Room! You had a hard last week of being 13 Months. With another episode of Croup to begin the week and then waking up in the middle of the night burning up- mommy and daddy were put to the test. I, of course, was ready to throw you in the car, but daddy stayed calm and we called the doctor and gave your a bath and some tylenol to start working on bringing down your fever. You carried around your pup pup with you everywhere and besides the fact that you were red red red, you acted completely fine- a little tired, but still lots of energy when you were awake. CrAzY! I'm glad we made it through and you are still in all one piece. It was very scary but it gave us confidence that we can take care of you, even when you are sick. You might have your temperature taken a little more than most little girls, but it's only because we love you... and we don't know what we're doing! :)
A Letter:
Dear Ruthie,
Another fascinating month being your mommy. You bring mommy and daddy so much joy. I can't believe how quickly you're growing into a beautiful little girl. Your personality rocks! At times, a little bull-headed just like your momma, but lots of fun. You bring smiles to our faces as we watch you grow. I can't wait to for the upcoming months. I am getting ready to enroll you in swimming lessons. We are also going to begin having story time at the library with Liam and Miss Emily. We're also going to check out a music class. All of which, I know you're going to LOVE!!
Love you with all of my heart Ruthie.
Love,
Momma
